Are you planning to initiate an online business? The first thing that you need is a perfect domain name to fit your brand identity. Audiences, customers, and investors will remember you by your website’s name. It is the foundation stone on which you build your digital identity. A quick search on Google would result in tones of incomplete advice. So, a while back, each time I bought a domain name I started keeping detailed notes. Using my experiences, I made a checklist that I go through myself every time I hit the purchase button, which I am now going to share it with you:
Tip 1 – Pick a Catchy Domain Name.
An easy-to-remember domain name makes the marketing, and promotion of your business much easier. Often times the website name itself is used as the brand name, i.e.: Amazon.com or Daraz.com. Thus the more branding-friendly and memorable the domain name is, more effective the promotions would be.
Tip 2 – Search Engine Strategies
Keep it in mind that your domain name will affect your position over your search engine optimization strategies. Thus it will eventually affect your website’s ranking in most search engines. Focus on what is your key feature if and when you ever get confused.
Tip 3 – Choosing the Self Explanatory domain name
You can name your domain after your own name, your products, your brand or as most other, name it after your company. Whichever you go for, be absolutely sure that your domain name servers the purpose of targeting your audience.
Tip 4 – No Prefix or Postfix
If and when you can’t find the appropriate domain name of your choice is not available, try and about moving on to an entirely different domain. Rather try to add any prefix or postfix. Pick easy ones. If you want to deliver flowers and Flowerdelivery.com is taken, try Freshflowerdelivery.com. Just refrain yourself overdoing it.
Tip 5 – No Hyphens
Try and don’t go for hyphens, dashes or numeric. It can cost you a lot more than you can imagine in verbal communication. Word of mouth is important in the modern business era.
I know it is difficult to always pick the best domain name. However, once you make up your mind, stick to it. Your marketing and promotion strategy is where you should focus right from the moment you are done purchasing that precious name.
Hope these tips can help you too like it has been helping me for ages. Comment your queries and feedbacks, I’ll answer and add them to the next article. Thank you.
